The Power of Daily Discipline

Is discipline something you struggle with in your work-life?

I know in mine, I sure do! Often, and in many areas! Sometimes all at once! :(

I want to do better, be more disciplined in my habits, choices, thoughts - I truly do! I strive to be less emotionally-led and more Spirit-led.

And sometimes I do! Then, life takes over...others are grappling for my time...requests come pouring in...I get tired...and irritable...I don't "feel like it" ... the excitement of the "new thing" wore off...

Can you relate to any of that?

Apostle Paul can! He lamented:

For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.   ~  Romans 7:14-20

What if I told you that focusing on improving your daily disciplines could single-handedly change your business?

Would you be excited to focus on it?

Even if it causes significant (though temporary) unpleasantness?

But we are told that the temporary "un-fun" will be but a brief memory, as we break out of old habits and thought patterns and take forward-moving action in creating and maintaining daily disciplines!

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.  ~  Hebrews 12:11

It may also be a relief to you if I told you that you don't have to do it alone. Or in your own strength! The Holy Spirit will do it in you, all He's waiting on is your willingness and submission!

Listen to this brief training on the Power of Daily Disciplines I shared a while ago in our Health Coaches on a Mission free support group (hey, speaking of that group, we'd LOVE to have you join us there!)

Now, let's talk about the practical stuff to this principle of daily discipline.

What will specifically change when you turn daily disciplines into HABITUAL routine?

In my experience, these were just a few of the changes I saw:

  • Feel confident and focused from the minute I sit down to work

  • Daily, necessary "mundane" activities took on a new purpose and feel more worthwhile now

  • Feeling less fragmented, more on-purpose no matter what activity I'm working on

HOW do you make the changes?

By "digging in" and tackling the things that you've let slide (tasks like content sharing, writing, filming or program creation) and setting up DAILY time blocks where you make yourself sit down and get them done!

Sometimes you need to just pick ONE activity at a time that you will get back into being faithful in doing...then, slowly but surely add in the next one, and the next one. The key is to do those activities DAILY. THIS builds the "discipline" piece.

What's the best TIME and WAY to get started on creating daily disciplines as a habit?

Easy answer: NOW! BY GETTING INTO ACTION!

Truly, just start where you are!

Doing ONE more activity today will be getting more done than NOT doing it because of overwhelm and just throwing it all out because you don't know where to start.

And before you know it, your daily work routine will be developing into a powerfully new, productive system! The stresses that tend to build in our routine when we let things stack up, will begin to diminish. Your work-life balance will take on a whole new, effective feel.
